Wy Yung have proved too good for Lakes Entrance in the 2025 East Gippsland Junior Football Association under-15 grand final at Bairnsdale City Oval, running out comprehensive 49-point winners.
The Tigers went into the match high in belief having beaten the Seagulls by 36 points in the recent qualifying final, but Lakes Entrance had regrouped strongly and went into the match high on confidence after being winners in the preliminary final by a staggering 147 points over Lindenow.
Unfortunately they went up against a Wy Yung outfit that was fresh and fighting fit.
Wy Yung came to play and dominated the first term, the Seagulls working hard to restrict the Tigers to just 3.6.
When Lakes Entrance finally got the ball forward, the Tigers quickly ran out of defence with precision and poise.
Luca Desio, who ultimately would be crowned player of the match, was already racking up possessions for fun, getting the ball forward, where Max Taylor (three goals), Oakley Hughes and Tayte Cooper (two each) were already causing problems for the Seagull defenders.
The Seagulls finally got on the board in the second term, outscoring the Tigers by three points, both sides registering a single goal as the match became a dour contest between the arcs, with plenty of stoppages.
The Tigers led by 21 points at half-time, the Seagulls battling hard to get close enough to mount a serious challenge, their offence improved in the third term, but it was matched by the eager Wy Yung, with the three-quarter time margin steady at 25 points.
Playing with maximum confidence and plenty of flair after an early goal, the Tigers powered away in the final term, kicking four goals to one, running out easy winners, led by the dynamic Desio, who was in everything.
Lakes Entrance was unable to recover from the slow start, having to play catch-up for the remainder of the contest.
Desio was joined in the best by Cedric Taylor, Hughes, Isaac Brown, Caleb Kelly and Max Gudgin, who capped a big day for family, joining sister Evelyn and father Glenn, as premiership medal winners.
Glenn was the coach of the victorious Bairnsdale Youth Girls side, who won the division one premiership, while Evelyn was one of the key players.
Jeremy Rotheram, Archer Connally, Ayden Martin, Henry Lothian, Lochie Yates and Cooper Anderson all tried hard for the Seagulls, with Evan Pompei finishing with two goals.
