Nothing has separated the top four sides all season in East Gippsland netball and that was evident on Sunday when Boisdale Briagolong and Wy Yung played one of the matches of the season in the elimination final at the Bairnsdale City Oval.
The Bombers and Tigers traded blows down the stretch, in a match where there didn’t deserve to be a loser. Boisdale emerged victorious with a narrow margin of just one goal (38-37), when the final siren sounded.
It was despair for the Tigers, so close to victory, only to be eliminated in a season where nothing could split the top four sides.
The Bombers live to fight another day, taking on Lucknow who didn’t play to their full potential and still almost beat Stratford.
Other close matches at the netball courts included the “B” grade match where the Swans hung on to beat the Magpies by two goals, and the thriller in the 15 and under where Orbost Snowy Rovers beat Paynesville (39-38) in another high-class match where the reality of your season ending and winning is so fine.
Other sides to progress to the preliminary final include Lucknow (“C” and “D” grade), Stratford (17 and under), and Lindenow (13 and under).
