Forty members of the Harmony Scholars Choir presented an Olde Time Music Hall Concert recently at the Picnic Point Hall.
An audience of more than 100 from aged care facilities, and family and friends of choir members were entertained in style as conductor Ginny Vincent led sing-along songs from early last century.
A large screen with words enabled the audience to participate, and the old songs brought back memories.
“I haven’t heard those songs since I was little” was a comment heard many times.
A special event at the concert was a celebration for the nonagenarians who were present.
Fifteen people over 90 years of age were honoured with a VIP medal on a lanyard, a signed and personalised certificate for “90+ trips around the sun”, and a small bag of chocolates.
A spirited rendition of For They Are Jolly Good Fellows completed this special presentation.
A delicious afternoon tea followed the concert, ending a wonderful afternoon.
It was reported that many from the aged care facilities continued to sing the songs on their way home.
Harmony Scholars’ next two free concerts are Tuesday, October 14 for Seniors Month at St John’s church, and Tuesday, December 2, a Christmas sing-along for the East Gippsland community at The Forge Theatre.
