The Morwell Football Netball Club have announced Shaun Mooney as their Senior Coach for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
Mooney departs Lucknow, where he has coached for the last three seasons, the last two yielding defeats on grand final day, to Boisdale Briagolong and Wy Yung.
The quietly spoken Mooney was also linked to the Sale Football Netball Club position, which has now been filled by former AFL player Jack Leslie.
Mooney brings with him to Tigerland over a decade of outstanding coaching experience, having held key senior coaching roles across the Ovens and Murray Football League, Gippsland League and the East Gippsland Football League, along with coaching stints at Gippsland Power.
He is a three time premiership player (two as coach), has accumulated 300 senior games and in 2025 also acted in the capacity of AFL Gippsland Coach Developer, after completing the AFL Victoria Advanced Coaching Practices Course.
Mooney replaces Boyd Bailey who has coached the Tigers for the last three seasons, where they have finished sixth, sixth and fourth on the ladder.
After defeating Warragul in week one of the Gippsland League finals, they were knocked out by Moe in week two.
Sale was excited to announce Leslie as its senior club coach for season 2026, replacing Jack Johnstone, who stepped away this season.
Leslie began his career at Sale before being drafted to the Gold Coast Suns, where he played 28 AFL games as a key defender.
Since returning to the Magpies, he has been a multiple Gippsland League Team of the Year member and will coach from the sidelines in 2026 due to a knee injury.
He brings elite experience, previous leadership as a senior assistant coach, and a strong connection to the club and will dedicate his full energy to developing players and setting high standards across the football program.
Sale finished ninth with four wins this season.
