New worker accommodation in Omeo

by
3 October 2025
in Local News

The State Government is ensuring Omeo continues to attract the healthcare workers it needs to keep thriving, with a key milestone reached in the delivery of new worker accommodation.

Acting Minister for Regional Development Danny Pearson announced that

Omeo District Health’s new modular worker house was now on site and essential connection works are set to begin in preparation for tenants.

“It’s great to see on-site works are commencing in Omeo and we look forward to seeing workers moving in and boosting local healthcare services,” Mr Pearson said.

Delivered through the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, the project has been designed to attract and retain key workers to support the town’s population of 1,300, with a focus on attracting doctors and nurses.

The five bedroom house will offer a couple’s unit and shared common spaces for workers and their families.

“This development marks a significant step toward securing the future of healthcare in Omeo, by providing high-quality, affordable accommodation that enables us to attract and retain the skilled professionals our community depends on,” Omeo District Health chief executive officer, Daniel Cziperle said.

The construction of the modular

building, which has been built off-site in Stratford by Anchor Homes, has also meant the creation of 16 regional jobs throughout the construction process.

“Modular construction gave us the ability to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient housing quickly and cost-effectively. Building off-site meant less disruption and faster installation, which is ideal for regional projects like the ODH Critical Worker Regional Accommodation Project,” an Anchor Homes spokesperson said.

It is yet another example of the successful use of modern modular construction

methods to meet housing needs in small regional towns.

“Our rural towns like Omeo need access to key services so residents can stay healthy, connected and supported, whilst sustaining the local economy – it’s this type of growth we’re supporting through our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund,” Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Tom McIntosh said.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund is also delivering modular builds in other communities across regional Victoria, including Hopetoun and Wangaratta, utilising advanced manufacturing techniques and the state’s burgeoning regional supply chain to find solutions to accommodation challenges faced by regional communities.

This is part of the Labor Government’s record $47 billion investment in just over a decade to drive economic growth and make our regions even better places to live, work, stay, invest and study. For more info, visit rdv.vic.gov.au
