Make-A-Wish Australia’s East Gippsland Volunteer Branch held its annual Christmas Shopping Spree on Friday, November 21.
The event was a great success, attracting strong community participation and lots of festive cheer.
Seventy enthusiastic shoppers joined the event, taking advantage of fantastic deals as Christmas approaches.
The evening resulted in more than $2700 raised, with every dollar supporting Make-A-Wish Australia to fulfill transformative wishes for children nationwide, including those in East Gippsland, who are facing serious or life-threatening illnesses.
These efforts bring hope, strength and joy during some of their most challenging moments.
Ten shops presented exceptional discounts, offering a broad selection for customers.
Branch president, Dave Williams, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event.
“We’d like to thank the local businesses for their support once again this year and a big thank you to those who purchased tickets to make our spree such a successful event,” he said.
“The more than $2700 raised helps Make-A-Wish Australia grant wishes to kids across the country, including those in East Gippsland. We’d love to not need to grant any wishes, but it’s wonderful that we can.”
A special acknowledgement was also given to the Bairnsdale Bowls Club, which provided a welcoming venue for shoppers to rest their weary feet and enjoy a much-appreciated supper to recharge their energy.
Adding to the festive
spirit, many participants embraced the dress-up theme, with Santa, Mrs Claus, and a number of Santa’s
helpers wandering from shop to shop.
Their cheerful presence, along with calls of ‘Merry Christmas’ from others around town, helped create a joyful atmosphere throughout the evening.
The East Gippsland Volunteer Branch looks forward to continuing its work with
the generous support of the local community.
Keep an eye out on social media for its next event, the always popular trivia night in March next year.
