Omeo’s new mountain bike park will officially open this Friday, December 5, strengthening the local economy and establishing the town as a year-round adventure destination.
East Gippsland Shire Council and the Omeo community will celebrate the launch of the Omeo Mountain Bike Park with a full weekend of two-wheeled activities.
After more than 10 years of planning, consultation and construction, the park is now one of the most significant tourism and recreation destinations in the High Country.
The launch marks a major milestone for Omeo and the region.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the park is a game-changer for Omeo and the opening is a proud moment for everyone who has supported the project.
“This has been driven by locals from day one. Their belief in what this park could mean for the town has never wavered,” she said.
The mayor said the park will play a big part in strengthening Omeo’s future.
“Having a year-round drawcard like this is a welcome boost for this region’s economy,” Cr Ashworth said.
“More visitors staying longer means more spending at local businesses – it ensures both the town and wider district remains vibrant and strong into the future.”
Federal Labor Senator for Victoria,
Senator Raff Ciccone, said the project will support the town’s growth.
“The opening of the Omeo Mountain Bike Park represents a significant investment in regional Victoria, delivering economic, recreational and tourism benefits for the Omeo community and East Gippsland region,” Senator Ciccone said.
“The Australian Government is pleased to support a project of this scale, which shows what’s possible when all levels of government and the local community work together to create lasting improvements.”
Council is inviting community, riders, families and supporters to enjoy the opening weekend.
The official launch will feature:
– A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony
– Informal rides with the trail builders and crew on Friday and Saturday
– A band on Friday night at the
Golden Age Hotel
– Guided rides on Saturday with the trail-building teams
– Half-price shuttle rides on Saturday
– A short film showcasing some of our hallmark trails through the builders’ lens on Saturday night
The network links Omeo’s town centre with the surrounding alpine landscape.
“This project belongs to the community,” Cr Ashworth said.
“They have contributed ideas and shown real pride in what the park will mean for the town’s future. We’re pleased to be able to celebrate that with a weekend of events for locals and visitors alike.”
