Meerlieu brought up its fifth win from six matches last week in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association women’s competition, comfortably defeating Lucknow on the Lucknow Recreation Reserve synthetic wicket.
The Tussocks might be only in their first season in the competition but continue to play like seasoned pros.
Batting first they accumulated 4/121 from their 20 over allotment, led by retired innings from Kelsey East (30) and Leah Simpson (31), with Adelle O’Doherty also impressing making 15.
Lily Bastian, the pick of the bowlers for the Magpies with 2/9 from four overs.
In reply, the Magpies finished on 2/87, with Monique Fisher top scoring with 31 retired and Bastian making 13 at the top of
the order.
The Tussocks sit three games clear on top of the ladder, with Lucknow currently holding a game and considerable percentage advantage over Paynesville with four rounds remaining.
The top two will play in the grand final on Wednesday, February 11.
The next match in the competition will be played on Wednesday, January 14, when Paynesville
host Lucknow on the synthetic wicket at AJ
Freeman Reserve.
