Drivers are reminded to respect parking limits over the festive season.
East Gippsland towns are expected to see a significant increase in traffic as the Christmas period approaches, prompting East Gippsland Shire Council to remind drivers to check parking signs and stick to time limits.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth, said parking officers will step up enforcement across the shire to ensure motorists follow all parking restrictions, including loading zones and disabled parking bays.
Timed parking arrangements in East Gippsland’s business districts help ensure turnover, allowing more shoppers and visitors to access local businesses.
“By following parking time limits, we can help keep our town centres accessible and make it easier for more people to visit local shops,” Cr Ashworth said.
“When we support local businesses, it doesn’t just help them – it supports the wider community.
Many local businesses give back through sponsorships, donations, and support for clubs and charities, so every visit really makes a difference.”
These restrictions apply to everyone, including shoppers, business owners, and staff.
Parking in loading zones can block deliveries, which are vital for businesses. Disabled parking spaces must also be respected and only used by vehicles displaying a valid permit, making it easier for people with disabilities to access shops and medical facilities.
Parking officers can issue fines ranging from $102 to $204 for breaches.
