The Metung Yacht Club (MYC) general committee invites all locals and visitors in the district to participate in Sail Past at Metung on New Year’s Day.
There will be prizes for best dressed boats and crews, and other themed awards.
This is an opportunity for sail and powered boats to participate in a long tradition, showing off your colours and saluting the commodore who will be aboard East Wind, anchored offshore from the yacht club, in Bancroft Bay.
MYC’s rescue boat will meet boats at Shaving Point and the crew will muster them to participate in the Sail Past from midday.
New Year’s Day 2026 will denote 62 years that the Russell family (in multiple generations) have been placing their boat,
East Wind, at the disposal of MYC for the annual Sail Past.
East Wind hosts the MYC commodore and special guests for Sail Past which originated in the late 1950s and has been held
every year since, apart from the 2019/20 bushfires’ disruption.
