East Gippsland is gearing up for a spectacular farewell to 2025, with towns across the region preparing to light up the night sky this Wednesday, December 31. From the coast to the caves, locals and visitors are spoilt for choice with a lineup of festivals, live music, and fireworks displays planned to welcome the new year.
Lakes Entrance
For those seeking the ultimate party atmosphere, the Lakes Entrance New Year’s Eve Festival promises a night of non-stop entertainment. Families and friends are invited to gather for two massive pyrotechnic displays. The sky will light up first at 9.30pm for an early celebration, followed by the main event at midnight for the big countdown to 2026.
Paynesville
The Paynesville waterfront will be buzzing from 6pm to 10.45pm. Residents are encouraged to grab their picnic gear and head down to the foreshore for an amazing night of entertainment on the Floating Tin Shed. The Damon Smith Trio will be performing live near Progress Jetty from 7pm, with a spectacular fireworks display scheduled for 10pm.
Metung
Bancroft Bay will provide a stunning backdrop for Metung’s community celebration. Families and holiday crews can gather at the Metung Hotel or the Village Green to watch a huge fireworks display launched from a barge out on the lake at 9.30pm.
Buchan
For those in the High Country, the Buchan Caves Hotel is hosting a family-friendly event running from 9pm to midnight. The town will enjoy two fireworks displays, one at 9pm and another at midnight to officially welcome the new year.
