East Gippsland Farm Dog Group will be hosting the Gippsland Sheep Breeders Utility Dog Trial on May 20 and 21 at 506 Cowells Lane, Lindenow South.
There will be four classes of competition with the novice and improver classes running on the Saturday and the open and encourage classes on Sunday. The event runs from 8am to 4.30pm both days.
“The utility trial event showcases handlers and dogs who have a diverse range of skills,” group president, Andrew Whelan, said.
“The dogs and the handler will work a small number of sheep in a paddock environment, highlighting patience and poise.
The dogs and handlers then transition to yard work, simulating farm activities that require strength and control.
“There will be a commentator at the event to explain what the handlers are undertaking and how it is being scored.”
