Paynesville’s Slip Road Maritime Precinct has moved into the final phase of construction, with major marine works now well advanced.
The precinct upgrade responds to growing demand for berthing across the Gippsland Lakes, one of Australia’s premier boating destinations, and aims to provide modern facilities for recreational boating and the
local marine industry, key drivers of the region’s economy.
Since construction began, the site has been transformed, with a new concrete panel seawall now defining the precinct’s footprint. Current works include the near-completion of Marina Jetty 2, offsite prefabrication of Jetty 3 with installation to start within two weeks, ongoing boat ramp construction, and the finalisation of underground services. The service jetty is almost ready for installation, and the northern seawall section is complete.
Once marine works are finished, the project will move into the final civil and landscaping phase, including kerbing, landscaping, and asphalting the car park. The completed precinct will feature a grassed recreation
area alongside the boardwalk and jetties, creating a welcoming waterfront space for residents and visitors.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the precinct is now taking visible shape.
“While the project has faced challenges with both timing and costs, the jetties, ramp and seawall now clearly define the space,”
Cr Ashworth said.
“This upgrade will deliver a long-lasting, high-quality maritime precinct that supports tourism, strengthens local businesses, and meets the needs of our boating community well into the future. We have redesigned some elements to ensure lasting benefits.”
Cr Ashworth said council continues to work closely with contractors, government agencies, Gippsland Ports, local businesses, and the community as construction progresses.
The Slip Road Maritime Precinct upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian Government, Victorian Government, and East Gippsland Shire Council, and is guided by the Paynesville Maritime Precinct Masterplan. Updates on construction progress and the new berths will be shared via Council’s YourSay East Gippsland page and other
community channels.
