Fundraising breakfast to support patients and families in need

by
19 April 2026
in Local News

The Rotary Club of Mitchell River will host its Annual Fundraising Breakfast for Gippsland Rotary Centenary House on Wednesday, April 22. The breakfast has become a long-standing community event, raising funds for a vital facility that supports patients and families across East Gippsland.

Rotary Centenary House provides accommodation for patients

undergoing treatment at the

nearby Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, as well as families of patients at Latrobe Regional

Hospital who would otherwise face long travel distances.

The facility offers motel-style ensuite rooms with double beds, sofa beds, fold-out beds, and, in some cases, cooking and dining areas. Guests also have access to a community kitchen, lounge, dining room, laundry, library, children’s playroom, a secure outdoor play area, barbecue and outdoor living space, a tranquil courtyard, and a “Quiet Room” for family privacy. The house is wheelchair-accessible, features internet access, and operates a closed-circuit security system.

Gippsland Rotary Centenary House was opened on September 2, 2006, as a major project marking

100 years of Rotary clubs. The Rotary Clubs of East Gippsland contributed approximately $2 million to its initial construction and have continued to support its ongoing development.

The Mitchell River club hosts the annual breakfast with the support of other East Gippsland Rotary clubs and community service groups.

Guests come from across East Gippsland, Wellington Shire, South Gippsland and Bass Coast. Costs for patients’ families are kept to a minimum, with stays heavily

subsidised for those travelling more than 100 kilometres. In cases of financial hardship, there may be no charge at all, following advice from social workers at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre.

The 2026 breakfast will be held at St Mary’s Parish Centre, behind St Mary’s Church, from 7.30am to 10.30am. Guests will enjoy a

generous breakfast and can enter a ‘lucky envelope’ competition

featuring prizes donated by the local community.

All proceeds support the operational costs of Centenary House.

The Rotary Club of Mitchell River encourages all community members to attend, enjoy breakfast, and support this important local facility.
