Taskforce Summit detectives arrested a 58-year-old New South Wales woman in Bairnsdale last week as part of an ongoing investigation into who assisted fugitive police killer Dezi Freeman while he was on the run.
Victoria Police confirmed the Bairnsdale arrest forms part of a wider, multi-jurisdictional probe into Freeman’s movements during his seven months at large before he was fatally shot by police during a stand-off in March.
A number of people have been interviewed and released without charge since Freeman’s death, as investigators work to determine whether a broader network harboured or aided the fugitive.
Officers are actively retracing Freeman’s steps across north-east Victoria and southern New South Wales. The extensive investigation has already seen detectives execute search warrants at seven properties, stretching as far north as Umina Beach on the NSW Central Coast.
Freeman shot and killed Victoria Police officers Vadim De Waart-Hottart and Neal Thompson last year, sparking one of the state’s largest manhunts in recent history.
