Preparations are well underway for the annual Bairnsdale Agricultural Show, with organisers locking in a packed program for the community to enjoy on Saturday, November 7.
A major feature of this year’s line-up is the 12th annual Wearable Recycled Art Parade, coordinated by local designer, dressmaker and show society vice president Julie Webb.
Ms Webb, who originally competed in wearable recycled art at regional field days, adapted the concept for the local show to educate youth on recycling, upcycling and repurposing.
While previously aimed at primary school students, the competition has expanded for 2026 to include secondary students and adults. Participants will create wearable costumes based on this year’s theme, Sea Creatures/Future Fossils.
To help entrants develop their designs, Ms Webb will run two free school holiday workshops:
– Wednesday, September 23: The Bairnsdale Gallery (10am–12.30pm)
– Wednesday, September 30: School Works Supplies back room, Macleod Street (10am–12.30pm)
The workshops are free for all age groups, with attendees able to work individually or in teams. While registration is not strictly required, an indication of attendance is appreciated.
Entry forms, show schedules, and inspiration displays are currently available at the Bairnsdale Library. Prospective entrants unable to attend the workshops can contact Ms Webb directly for guidance.
