Bottom two sides face off

by Damien Donohue

in Sport

Another competitive round of matches is programmed this week for the Omeo and District Football League.
The match of the round features the two bottom sides, Buchan, who have won three games, hosting Swan Reach, who are winless thus far in 2024.
Remarkably in most people eyes, given the results of the past few weeks, the Wilfred Carter-coached Swan Reach will go in as favourites.
The Swans have been about the mark and competitive most games for two to three quarters, while the Cavemen will need to regain confidence quickly after being humbled by reigning premier Swifts Creek last week by 25 goals.
The sides have met twice already this season, the Cavemen winning the first time by 110 points and on then second occasion by just 10 points.
It will be interesting to see whether the more experienced and big bodied Swans prevail in a tight game over the pacy and enthusiastic Buchan.
An improving Swifts Creek will host an Omeo Benambra side coming off a loss to Lindenow South after many predicted the Alpine Ranges might go through the season unbeaten.
The Demons have definitely made leaps and bounds in recent weeks, but it’s still hard to see them beating the Alpine Ranges at this stage.
In a similar clash, Lindenow South, last week’s giant killer, will welcome Bruthen, who was predicted to be a contender some stage in 2024.
The Bulldogs have been around the mark and racked up some important wins but they are yet to test the top two sides.
This Saturday will be another opportunity to see where they are at, as we enter the back half of the season.
