With four rounds of the Omeo and District Football Netball League season remaining, fourth place is still very much up for grabs.
Swifts Creek currently occupies the final spot by just two points from Buchan.
The problem for the Cavmen is the Demons appear to be on an upward trajectory, while they are going the other way, humbled by the previously winless Swan Reach at home last round by 71 points.
Buchan and Swifts Creek will meet at the Cave in round 15, but on present form it’s unlikely they will be within four points to push for a finals spot in a cut-throat game where the winner keeps its season alive.
In this week’s matches Omeo Benambra is at home to the Cavemen, the Alpine Ranges keen to get back on the winners list after a surprise hiccup last week against Lindenow South.
The improving Swan Reach will host Lindenow South, the Swans will be eager to make it two in a row, but should find the Swampies too slick in the second half.
The match of the round is at Bruthen where the Bulldogs take on Swifts Creek.
Victory by the Demons, would cement a place in the finals for 2024, and keep the dream of going back to back alive.
Swifts Creek have made good progress in recent weeks, and if they get all their cattle on the park, they are more than capable of getting over the top of the Bulldogs, who will be keen to make a statement against a probable elimination final opponent.
