Melbourne based Linley Watson has only been on the job for the past five weeks as Southern Region Community Engagement Officer for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Australia, but she found her way to Bairnsdale to meet with
local prostate cancer support leaders, Wayne Stagg (Bairnsdale) and Moss Mahony (Lakes Entrance) last week.
At the meeting Moss asked Linley if she could pass onto the chief executive officer of the foundation the possibility of it continuing its endeavours to produce a guidebook for prostate cancer support groups to use as a general reference guide for their good work to continue in a structured manner.
Other issues raised for discussion were communication and whose responsibility it is to directly communicate news and information to all men affected by prostate issues one way or another.
Moss said two issues that quickly came to mind were travelling expenses for patients and continence pad subsidies. Moss said
some patients at the Lakes group were aware of these issues and some weren’t.
Wayne said both support groups at Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance supported each other and swapped information as well as attending each others meetings.
Wayne said both groups were keen for any person touched by prostate cancer to get in touch with the group’s and in the first instance call the Advertiser for more details.
