The East Gippsland Football Netball League netball commissioners have this year put together an “A” grade team of the year which display youth, experience and excitement.
The top five teams across the season were rewarded with their best players featuring in the 12-player squad.
Unfortunately this meant no room for any players from Lakes Entrance, Lindenow and Paynesville.
The team is led by defensive duo Caitlyn Wright, of Wy Yung, and Hayley Morton, of Lucknow. The pair won the best and fairest and runner-up trophies at the recent league vote count and have been vital cogs in their sides’ run to finals. Both are terrific intercept and rebound players and were duly rewarded for consistent seasons.
Adding to the defensive pressure is Stratford go-getter Holly Webb, who takes on the wing defence position. Her side narrowly missed finals, however she was a constant intercept threat and attacking passer.
Lucknow coach Erica Lynch takes up the centre role. Lynch has long been a midcourt standout and has this year led the Magpies with aplomb both with leadership and quality performance.
Moving into the attacking end, Boisdale Briagolong’s Ashlee McDonough has been entrusted with the feeding duties for exceptional shooters, teammate Sarah Gardiner and Stratford’s Paris Toner, the latter who won the league’s trade award voted on by opposition coaches.
On the interchange is shooting pair Hayley Boxall, of Orbost Snowy, and Macy Tatnell, of Lucknow, as well as Bomber Linley Bertacchini, Swan Ava Buckland and Blue Jorja Savory.
