Bairnsdale Volleyball Association (BVA) won two medals at the 2024 Victorian Country Championships held in the Latrobe Valley over the King’s Birthday long weekend.
The Bairnsdale men’s team was successful in the bronze medal game in division two, defeating Latrobe Valley comprehensively 3-0.
After an outstanding campaign, the Bairnsdale women’s side made it through to the gold medal game in division two, but unfortunately had to be content with silver, losing to a strong Mornington team 0-3.
Five members of the Bairnsdale contingent were selected in the respective tournament All Star Sevens – Jonny Knight, Joel Reynolds, Colin Clissold, Hannah Leonard and Natalie Mackay.
The BVA was extremely proud of the efforts of all players who represented the association in four days of difficult competition, with both sides going unbeaten through the qualifying rounds.
With three women and four men representing the association at championship level for the first time, the future looks bright for volleyball in the East Gippsland region.
