Wilhelmina Armstrong was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for her service to the East Gippsland community in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List.
Mrs Armstrong, known as Mina, has been a strong servant of the locally community for many years.
Some of her roles include being a parishioner and volunteer with St Mary’s Catholic Church since the 1980s, as well as a benefactor for church restoration in 2010, she been a relief coordinator, benefactor and supporter of the Bairnsdale Fire Brigade while also featuring significantly within the Pelicans Auxiliary of the Bairnsdale hospital, including being a campaign leader for the establishment of an oncology and dialysis unit from 2008-2010.
Mrs Armstrong has also had many additional roles, both volunteer and under the business banner.
She was a founder and is a benefactor of the Jack Armstrong Memorial Scholarship at TAFE Gippsland Tafe, since 1992, a benefactor and supporter of Noweyung, now known as Distinctive Options Noweyung, since 1980, a co-founder of the Bairnsdale International Women’s Group, which operated from 1989 to 2017, is a council member of Australian Council of Multicultural Entrepreneurs, and is a benefactor and supporter of Ati-Atihan Group of Melbourne.
Mrs Armstrong has been a director and property developer since 1991 and is a current director of Paynesville Armstrong.
She has also received two awards for her support to the Australian Filipino community – co-recipient of the achiever award with the Filipino Community Council of Australia, 2018, and a certificate of appreciation by the Philippine Consulate – 125 Years of Philippine Independence, in 2023.
