Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a train and car in Bairnsdale last Friday night.
The incident occurred at a Ligar Street crossing at around 6.30pm.
The two occupants in the car, both from Bairnsdale, were trapped for some time before being cut free by emergency services.
Both the 19-year-old female driver and the 17-year-old male passenger were airlifted to hospital.
The driver was in a serious but stable condition, the passenger in a critical condition.
The 38 passengers on board the V/Line Traralgon-bound train were transferred to coach services with none reporting any injuries.
The train line remained closed until Saturday morning as police investigated the cause of the collision.
