Game Management Authority (GMA) authorised officers and Victoria Police recently conducted night patrols in East Gippsland.
A Briagolong man was intercepted and found to be in possession of a spotlight, an unsecured firearm and ammunition in recognised deer habitat at night.
Further investigations at the man’s property determined the man was also in possession of a Hog Deer head without tags and is alleged to have been deer hunting while unlicensed.
Several items were seized including a firearm, ammunition, hunting equipment and a Hog Deer head.
A further investigation is underway.
It is an offence to hunt game without a valid Game Licence. When travelling through recognised deer habitat at night, spotlights (including thermal devices) must not be in use and firearms and
ammunition must be stored securely and separately.
