The Apex Club of Bairnsdale recently celebrated its 86th annual handover event at Lindenow Farmers Home Hotel, with family and friends in attendance.
The 2024/25 committee consists of – president: Malia Stephenson; vice president: Mary Worcester; secretary” Jade van Hooydonk; treasurer: Kass O’Kelly; service coordinator: Phillip O’Kelly; commissariat: Graeme Stephenson; publicity officer: Elise Malberg.
The highlight of the night is always the presentation of the awards, as decided by the club’s executive members.
Winner of Apexian of the Year was Kass O’Kelly, who also won the winner of the service award-member with the highest service hours.
Horses Ass Award – member with the greatest number of fines paid throughout the year – went to Graeme Stephenson, while member(s) with highest meeting attendance were Brendan O’Kelly, Kass O’Kelly and Phil O’Kelly, all with 100 per cent attendance.
The club has had a productive 12 months, once again hosting its main event Colour Ya World, this time in Buchan, after securing a grant to run an event in one of the bushfire affected areas.
Club members have also participated in Bunnings barbecues, conducted a fun trivia night, participated in Children’s Week with “Look for an Apex Book” and hosted the annual Mother’s Day Classic.
The club is looking forward to another busy year ahead starting with a 60s themed trivia night, that will be held on October 19 at St Mary’s Parish Centre in Bairnsdale. More details can be found on the club’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
