There has been mixed results for Golf East Gippsland (GEG) at 2024 Country Week of Golf recently played in the South West District.
The men’s and women’s competition that GEG participate in was dominated by the home zone, South West District.
The ladies’ team finished a respectable third, while the men were placed fifth and will be relegated to the bowls section in 2025.
In the ladies they were victorious in two of their four matches, defeating Dalhousie (6.5-0.5) and West Gippsland (5.5-1.5) while losing to South Western (2.5-4.5) and South Gippsland (2.5-4.5).
The men defeated North Eastern (4-3) and lost to Western (2-5), Golf Central (2.5-4.5) and South Western (0.5-6.5).
Despite only winning once, the men’s side was delighted with the performance of youngsters Cooper Rimington and Noah Patterson who performed to a high standard and exceeded all expectations.
The Zappelli Shield, named after the Lakes Entrance legend, is awarded by the players for the most valued team member, was taken out by Paterson.
