It’s been a busy time for the Bairnsdale parkrun crew, conducting two runs over the past fortnight.
As well as the regular Saturday morning five kilometre river side run, the group also staged the event on New Year’s Day, attracting 96 participants, who walked, jogged and ran.
The event was led home by first time participant, Andrew Crawford (18.26), who finished comfortably ahead of Lakes Entrance run regular, Jett Knur (19.17) in a personal best time and Laz Tanner (20.30).
The first women home was Riviera Triathlon Club’s Alexandra Keith, who rounded off her preparation for the Marlo triathlon with a 22 minutes and eight second effort, which saw her finish in eighth place overall.
The event saw 15 personal bests and attracted an impressive 17 newcomers, some obviously having exercise high on their new year’s resolution list.
The 398th edition of the parkrun was held last Saturday morning was well patronised with 112 people taking the opportunity to partake in some exercise.
The event attracted 25 first timers and six people record new personal bests times.
First past the post was Brock Spanton in 19 minutes and 35 seconds. He finished ahead of Mike Thomas (19.42) and Angus Tanner (20.00). The first woman home was Rachel Smith in 23 minutes and 20 seconds in 22nd place overall.
Events over the last week have seen representatives of 19 clubs involved, these include Hitt Factory, Wild Dog Triathlon Club, Riviera Triathlon Club, Nobby’s Nutcases, Traralgon Harriers, Sale and District Runners, Lalor Running Club, Point Cook Runners, Lakes and District Runners, The Adventurers, Baw Baw Runners, Everlasting Fitness Runners, Mornington Peninsula Athletics Club, MULMIG, Hobson’s Bay Running Club, Pakenham Road Runners, Sydney Striders, East Gippsland Runners and Running Mums Australia.
