Hundreds of new social homes will soon be built for First Nations Victorians as part of the State Government’s investment into housing across the state, including 36 in
East Gippsland.
Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing last week announced more than $153 million will be invested to deliver up to 348 new homes in Victoria.
The funding is across 93 projects, as part of the Labor Government’s Big Housing Build, with 10 per cent of all new social homes under the build to be for Aboriginal Victorians.
The homes will be built right across the state with significant investment in regional Victoria – more than 230 homes in
the regions.
“We’re delivering hundreds of homes across the state for First Nations Victorians through our record investment in social and affordable housing across the state,” Minister Shing said.
“By working closely with First Nations housing organisations, we’re making sure homes that get built for Aboriginal Victorians are designed and managed in a way that reflects the needs of their communities.”
This funding supports self-determination and builds economic strength through partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, who will design, deliver, and manage the homes.
Aboriginal Housing Victoria, Aboriginal Community Housing Victoria Limited, Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative, and Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation are the agencies who will be delivering these homes.
