The Probus Club of Bairnsdale held its general meeting and annual general meeting (AGM) last Wednesday, March 11, at the Bairnsdale Bowls Club, with 34 members in attendance.
The meeting opened with a profile speaker presentation, followed by the AGM and election of office bearers. After the formal proceedings, members engaged in a lively discussion about activities for the year ahead.
This month’s profile speaker was Garry Gray, who shared his life story and experiences. Born in Brisbane, Garry completed his primary schooling in the small country town of Clifton. His father, a territory manager for Mobil Oil, moved frequently, and Garry completed his secondary education at Glen Waverley High School.
Garry initially aimed to become an air traffic controller with the Department of Civil Aviation but was unable to meet the vision requirements. He then spent several years working in various roles and travelling overseas. On returning to Australia, he joined Mobil Oil as a Territory Manager in East Gippsland, before later moving to GLCH’s accounts department, where he remained until retirement.
Since retiring, Garry has been actively involved in the SES, Bush Heritage, 4 Wheel Drive Club, Walking Club, and Probus, highlighting a lifelong commitment to community involvement.
