Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has met with representatives from One Gippsland in Canberra, as preparations begin ahead of the 2026 Federal Budget.
Mr Chester said engaging directly with regional leaders was critical in ensuring Gippsland’s priorities were clearly communicated at a national level.
“Engaging directly with regional leaders is incredibly important, particularly in the lead-up to the Federal Budget,” he said.
“It provides a strong platform for Gippsland’s industry and community representatives to advocate for the investment we need to grow our economy, strengthen our communities and improve liveability.”
Mr Chester said One Gippsland continued to play a key role in coordinating advocacy efforts across the region.
“One Gippsland brings together government, business and community voices to ensure our region speaks with a united and coordinated voice,” he said.
The meeting included South Gippsland Shire Mayor and One Gippsland chair Nathan Hersey, South Gippsland
Shire Council chief executive Allison
Jones, Food and Fibre Gippsland chief
executive Simon Johnson, and Wellington Shire Mayor Cindy Madeley.
Discussions focused on key regional priorities including freight, tourism, skills and education, disaster resilience and energy.
“These are critical areas that will improve connectivity, support local jobs and help build a stronger future for Gippsland,” Mr Chester said.
He said it was essential that regional communities were represented in national decision-making.
“I will continue to advocate strongly to ensure Gippsland gets its fair share of investment and the support our communities deserve,” Mr Chester said.
