Unbeaten Stratford boxer Max Reeves will fight for a world title at Pullman Hotel in Melbourne on June 29.
A rising star in the Australian boxing ranks, Reeves will fight Tonga Tongotongo for the IBO Youth World Light Heavyweight Title.
It’s the third change of opponent for Reeves in recent weeks, with New South Wales boxer Abdul Abdulrahman and former world rated fighter, King Davidson, the man they call “Hand of God”, both pulling out.
Tongotongo is highly rated, the winner of all his seven fights by knockout. The match up put together by Wildfighter’s Will Tomlinson is said to be possibly the biggest fight he has billed.
Reeves is looking to build on his equally impressive record, unbeaten after 10 bouts, which culminated in arguably his greatest performance when he defeated the tough Adrian Rodriguez on points at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex in March.
That 10-round bout went the distance with Reeves winning by unanimous points decision, the three judges scoring the fight 100-89, 100-90 and 100-89.
Reeves was glad to get through 10 tough rounds, which he thinks will hold him in great stead going forward.
“It was a tough slog, it was good to test the body over the distance of the fight, the hard work certainly paid off, and I will be working just as hard in preparation for Tonga, who has never been past the fourth round,” Reeves said.
Reeves is currently in full training, which includes running, weights and intensive sparring.
