There was disappointment for the Bairnsdale Cricket Association last Sunday in its Gippsland Cricket League campaign, with only one of the three sides successful.
In the senior match at Stratford against Sale Maffra, Bairnsdale won the toss and batted, finishing on 9/133 after its 50-over allotment on a pretty good wicket.
Six players reached double figures, but no one was able to dominate the bowling and gain momentum.
Nathan Schoultz top scored with 28, with Isaac Love’s 18 the next best.
Stratford’s Jack Rietschel was the leading wicket taker for Sale Maffra taking 3/11, well supported by Charlie Morrison who took 2/28.
In reply Sale-Maffra chased down the total in just 28 overs for the loss of six wickets, with Zac Hurley top scoring with 63 and Jack Tatterson making 34.
Connor Mitchell (2/38) and Ryan Halford (2/17) were the multiple wicket takers for Bairnsdale.
In the under 15 match against Warragul at Bellbird Park on the turf, Bairnsdale was outclassed, going down by 85 runs.
Warragul batting first finished its innings on 9/166 after 50 overs, with the leading wicket takers for Bairnsdale being Harper Clack (2/19), Des Hine (2/15) and Lenny Dullard (2/15).
Bairnsdale could only muster 81 in reply, with skipper Will Davidson top scoring with 23.
The only winners for the day were the under 13s, but only just.
They played Warragul at Bellbird Park on the synthetic wicket. Batting first Bairnsdale was bowled out for 83 with Darcy Johnson leading the way with 20 and Jude Wilson making a valuable 11 not out towards the end of the innings.
Warragul was dismissed for 81 in reply with Pat McGinty (2/15) and Ashton Moncrieff (2/7) among the wickets
