Hobie success

Lakes Entrance's Paul Hardiman caught the biggest bream in round four of the Hobie Kayak Series event held at Lake Macquarie in New South Wales. His species weighing in at 1.54 kilograms. (PS)

Series 16 of the Hobie Kayak Fishing Series is well underway, with round four recently conducted at Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, will some good results achieved by East Gippsland anglers.

The event was won by New South Wales angler Greg Crebert, whose six bream weighed in at 4.84 kilograms, finishing ahead of Western Australian ace Joseph Gardner (4.09kgs) and another New South Wales fisherman, Jarrad Hickman (4.01kgs).

Local youngster Riley Whelan (2.48kgs) was the winner of the youth section, with Lakes Entrance’s Paul Hardiman catching the biggest fish of the tournament, a magnificent 1.54 kilogram bream.

Rosedale’s Tony Pettie (3.95kgs) finished in fifth place, while Bairnsdale’s Peter Nord (3.08kgs) finished in 14th,

just behind Hardiman (3.19kgs) who

was the leading masters competitor in 11th overall.

The winner of the women’s section was Australian Capital Territory’s Leanne Cowan, whose task was made easier with local leading lady Ruth Beeby convalescing currently with a broken leg.

Round five will be held at Georges River in New South Wales on June 14-15.
